How to Get More Customers in Your Lawn Care Business

Uncategorized Aug 03, 2020

Everybody with a new lawn care business has one main fear, running out of clients. It is easy to think to yourself, “oh how on earth am I going to find more work?” or “There is no way I will get this neighborhood’s business instead of my competitor”. Well, I am here to tell you that with just a few easy steps, you can get your name out there in front of thousands of customers. If you can follow these easy steps, your phone will be ringing off the hook before you know it.

Totally Under Your Control

The first thing you need to understand is that the amount of work you get is completely up to you. It is easy to think that work is nearly random or hard to get, but if you can put in the effort to search for it, work will come easy. Just think of how many neighborhoods there are, there are thousands of people begging to find a lawn care company that is reliable, does good work, and can form a long term relationship. All you have to do is get out there and talk to them.

This part of the process is all about your mindset. You have to have the mindset that you can find more work. You have to be able to take 9 no’s and 1 yes. The more you grind and the more you try, the more likely you are to succeed. No matter how good you are, your results will never outperform your mindset. Just like Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right”.

Making Social Accounts

One easy way to get people to see you is to make free social media accounts. Social media is the go-to way to reach people nowadays. If you are a successful business in 2020 there is no doubt that you have a Facebook page, Instagram, Twitter, or even a TikTok for your brand. You need to be interacting with people through these mediums and making relatable posts that the people will enjoy. People that interact with a brand through social media are much more likely to become paying customers than people who have never heard of you before.

Another social type account you should be making are business listings. Anywhere that allows you to put your business name, logo, description, and maybe pricing is your friend. You should be signing up for everyone you can find. Examples of these places are Google Business Listings, Yelp, Yahoo, Angie’s List just to name a few. These accounts will show up in searches for people in your area. It is basically free internet advertising.

Make a Website

The next thing you need is a website. Social platforms are great, however, your business needs a home base. A website is a perfect place to add your pricing, content that your customers could find useful, examples of your work, a place for customers to order your services, or anything else you can imagine. The amount of successful businesses operating nowadays without a website is quickly dwindling. Just being online allows you to reach so many more people than you could in person, it is really a no-brainer for a successful practice.

Your website is also where all of your social profiles should be linking back to. At the end of the day, your Facebook page belongs to Facebook. However, your website belongs to you. So you should be taking advantage of the free and paid services offered by these social media outlets, they are the number one way to drive traffic to your website, leading to more paying clients.

Putting Yourself Out There

Even if you have a website and dozens of social platforms, they will not do much on their own. You should be constantly posting on these sites and advertising your services. Places like Craigslist and Facebook will let you post specialized posts for people looking for your services. You should also be using paid ads. The best place to be spending your marketing dollars right now is on Facebook ads. You can create an ad that specifically targets homeowners in your area for as little as the price of a cup of coffee. Spending just $20 a week on these ads will put you in front of thousands of potential customers that you can funnel throughout your website and turn in to clients.

You should also be taking advantage of all the traffic coming to your website by gathering people’s emails and/or phone numbers. Email is thought of as an old way of doing business nowadays but it is still going strong. When all else fails and social media blacks out, you can still email thousands of people who have interacted with you in the past. As well as send a quick text to customers you have interacted with in the past.

You should also not dismiss physical advertising. Things like hanging up flyers, wearing branded t-shirts, adding a sign on your trailer, placing bandit signs throughout neighborhoods are all amazing ways of letting the locals know you are there.

Watch What the Other Guys Are Doing

The odds that you are the only one in your niche in your area are slim. There are sure to be competitors around every single corner. Watch what they are doing and see how the customers react. Go through there funnels and learn everything about how they acquire customers, and then do it better. Not only should you do it better but you should also be doing more. Whether it is providing more useful content online, or adding in a free service with every order, give customers a reason to choose you over the competition.

Conclusion

To sum it all up, getting more customers is not as hard as you may think. You have to have the courageous mindset that you can find these clients. As long as you do not give up and keep putting yourself out there either through physical means or online, you will start getting more clients. It is important that you make social media accounts and use them daily. Buy some paid advertisements through these social channels, find out which ones work best for you, and then do it again until you are swamped. If you can get better at marketing, your problem will never be not having enough clients, but having too many.
